An April 2021 message from the President
It's with sadness that I start this newsletter to relay the passing of Brian Loughnan. Brian was a member from 2014 until the
current year. Brian was always a gentleman, a keen and competent golfer and bowler. Brian loved the Melbourne Cup functions
at the club and was a avid participant in the sweeps and dominated the *calcutta*. I was proud to have Brian in my
Saturday Pennant team many years ago when our Division 5 won the Grand Final Pennant and I know other members
have fond memories of Brian in their team. Brian will be sadly missed and our condolences go to his family and close friends.
Brian's funeral will be held 10 a.m. Monday the 19th at Allison Monkhouse, Marine Parade, Hastings.
Unfortunately Hastings hasn't brought home any flags this season, but we did come mighty close. Well done to all the committed pennant bowlers who make Hastings a great club to belong to. Thanks to the selectors who have the worst job in the world
(that's not to put people off wishing to go on the selection committee!) and tried hard to keep us all happy and enjoying our bowling.
It's been a pretty hectic time at the club with the end of pennant and Hastings hosting finals from other clubs.
This Saturday the 17th we are lucky enough to host the GRAND FINAL of the Division 1 Pennant featuring Karingal and City of Frankston. There will be a sausage sizzle and raffles available. The game will start at 1pm.
Bruce Evans, Adrian Johnson, Ken White and Joe Attard have applied for the coaching course which will boost Hastings competitive edge. Thanks to these members.
Bunnings BBQ needs a few more volunteers to fill some afternoon spots. There's a list in the foyer. Date: Sunday 9th May.
You don't have to be there all day, an hour or two would really help out. Thanks in advance.
The Bowls Director has advised that the club championship events have been extended to include:-
Please note these events will only be held if there are multiple entries.
Entry forms will be in the foyer and the closing date will be the 24th April, 2021
Some of these events haven't been held for several seasons. Let's bring them back.
If you are considering putting a team in for Winter Pennant please do so now. Ten teams have already entered and another 14 teams only will be accepted. Winter Pennant starts on the 29th May and is the best winter pennant event on the Peninsula and beyond.
It's that time of year when our committed members put their hand up to help in the running of the club.
THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY 8TH MAY AT 10 AM.
Nominations for all positions are available in the club and if you wish to increase your value as a member please consider taking a position on the Board or other committee role. If any member has any business to present to the meeting it must be received in writing 2 weeks prior to the meeting for consideration.
This current committee is anticipating Presentation Night to be on Saturday 12th June. Please contact me if you have any ideas for this evening to run concurrent with Presentation would be welcomed.
Thanks to our diligent treasurer Dave we have been able to finalize our loan and we look forward to financing other projects for the benefit of the club in the near future.
regards, Helen Couchman
